About the Action for Climate Empowerment Innovation Project ACE_AT:
Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE) is a term adopted by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to denote work under Article 6 of the Convention (1992) and Article 12 of the Paris Agreement (2015). The over-arching goal of ACE is to empower all members of society to engage in climate action, through education, training, public awareness, public participation, public access to information, and international cooperation on these issues. (source: https://unfccc.int/topics/education-youth/the-big-picture/what-is-action-for-climate-empowerment)
The Project ACE_AT is a collaborative global effort towards strengthening Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE) within and beyond the UNFCCC process. The goal is to empower all members of society to engage in Climate Action and to change the perception on ACE.

DigitalArt4Climate is a multi-stakeholder partnership initiative which uses blockchain technology (non-fungible tokens/NFTs) to turn artwork into digital assets, which can be collected and traded, thus opening up a socio- technological innovation space which helps to unlock unprecedented potentials for resource mobilization in support of Sustainable Development Goals/ UN Agenda2030 implementation in general andAction for Climate Empowermentin particular.
Why a Designathon?
In order to design the initiative’s front-end solutions in a time efficient and attractive manner, the DigitalArt4Climate consortium decided to invite the „crowd“ of designers, software and game developers to help design – under the guidance of the DigitalArt4Climate Lead Technology Partner Unique Network NFT Platform, which provides the blockchain based back-end of the DigitalArt4Climate digital collectibles/NFTs solution and the Lead Creative Community partner of the DigitalArt4Climate initiative, Exquisite Workers – the user experience (UX)/user interface (UI) of the DigitalArt4Climate platform and app as well as easy to use software solutions for participating artists, collectors, the climate action community and the general public.
What: Crowdsourcing of design and software solutions for a digital collectibles /NFTs platform and app in the context of the all of society climate action empowerment initiative #DigitalArt4Climate, which is using blockchain technology based digital collectibles (non-fungible tokens/NFTs), to document, tokenize, trade and gamify contributions to local and global climate action empowerment in the context and in support of the Action for Climate Empowerment program of the United Nations (links to further information: https://www.glocha.org/digitalart4climate/ & Video on demand of the first presentation of the initiative 4th of June 2021 in the context of the World Environment Day 2021: https://youtu.be/SsgTJqfeByI?t=3262)
Aimsof the Designathon:
(1) Finding UX/UI (User experience/User interface) design solutions (the “look and feel”) for (a) a digital art collectibles/NFTs platform and app for artists, collectors, the public and (b) a #DigitalArt4Climate marketplace for digital art collectibles/NFTs trading, which is envisaged as some kind of foundation for a future Action for Climate Empowerment resource mobilization marketplace on which different types of contributions to local and global climate action empowerment (art, ideas, funding, volunteering, etc.) as well as verified climate action outcomes/impact will be presented and traded as unique digital collectibles/NFTs, thus enabling new forms of innovative climate related social entrepreneurship
(3) forming a community of design and software solutions providers, who will work with the #DigitalArt4Climate consortium on implementation of the identified solutions and designs
monetary: 500 € for the best design solutions and 500 € for the best software solution
non-monetary: (1) participation in DigitalArt4Climate hackathon award ceremony on 12th of August (=launch of the DigitalArt4Climate Call for Art) and potentially also in future DigitalArt4Climate edutainment shows and (2) opportunity to work with DigitalArt4Climate consortium (especially Unique Network tech team on the implementation of the winning solutions and potential employment opportunities)

The UNFCCC Action for Climate Empowerment programme ACE is the governance innovation space for national governments and non-party stakeholders to find pathways towards all of society climate action empowerment. A key issue is lack of resources (reference: UNFCCC Future of ACE Options document)
The #DigitalArt4Climate / #DigitalCollectibles4Climate initiative recognises the value of artistic expressions (ideas/text, images, videos, music, …) as enabling resources for climate action. By means of transforming conventional art with the help of technology (enabled by blockchain technology) into digital assets (digital collectibles, non-fungible tokens NFTs) the potentials of art for climate action empowerment can be significantly increased. IAAI, as an associated partner of the Action for Climate Empowerment innovation project ACE_AT and as coordinator of the GloCha Global Challenges Action Empowerment consortium and its partners are planning to establish a mechanism/marketplace for climate related digital art through which auctions and other forms of value exchanges can be organised in order for ACE stakeholders, on all levels of society, to be equipped with the needed financial resources for their work and rewarded for well documented climate action and impact (=ACE marketplace, which has been called for by several stakeholders in the UNFCCC Future of ACE consultations, see above listed UNFCCC reference document).
During the DigitalArt4Climate webinar there will be launched a “Call for visual art for climate action empowerment” as an experiment on systemic Action for Climate Empowerment innovation with the transformative power of art and technology.

In order to strengthen ACE in global climate governance and in order to celebrate the return of the United States as party to the Paris Agreement, the Austrian Federal Ministry for Climate Action in collaboration with the UN Climate Change Secretariat, ECOS, ICLEI and GloCha’s partner organization IAAI organizes on Wednesday 28th of April 2021, 3-5 PM CEST / 9-11 EDT the webinar “Stepping Up Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE)” to celebrate and strengthen international collaboration towards all of society climate action in the context of the Earth Day 2021 Climate Summit convened by US President Joe Biden”.
Citizens‘ engagement is a key prerequisite for successful implementation of global, regional, national and local climate neutrality goals. The European Climate Pact (which has been launched in December 2020) is a ground-breaking public sector innovation that aims to create an ecosystem and engagement opportunities for citizens and other non-state actors to make individual climate action pledges and thus to contribute in an action and impact oriented manner their passion, knowledge as well as other resources to the climate neutrality goals of the European Green Deal.
Fascinated by the innovation leadership of the European Climate Pact and convinced of its huge potentials for inspiring innovative approaches for the empowerment of non-state actors’ climate action on a global level, Miroslav Polzer, one of the first-generation EU Climate Pact ambassadors, initiated this European Climate Pact launch satellite event with a focus on Youth Climate Action Empowerment. The aim is to build bridges between the European Climate Pact and global youth/multi-stakeholder Climate Action Empowerment efforts in the context of the United Nations system and to connect digital innovation solution providers with the climate action community to develop concrete climate action apps & tools. (See reference: IAAI GloCha & Climate Chain Coalition ICLEI Daring Cities Forum 2020 side event „With Blockchain Technology and Digital Innovation Towards Climate Neutral Cities and Citizens“ (see video: https://youtu.be/gkrE35IlLO4)). This initiative of Miro Polzer/IAAI is part of the Action for Climate Empowerment project ACEAT, initiated, funded and coordinated by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Climate Action, in collaboration with the UN Climate Change Secretariat as lead partner.
